Friends Of The Highline
Yet another reason why NEW YAWWWK is awesome: people taking a serious creative interest in their community. Rob Hammond and a few friends realised that no one was actually working to preserve one of Manhattan's relics, the High Line, and decided to do something about it.
Several years and millions of dollars later, the place is being turned from the backdrop out of I Am Legend into Ted Mosby's dream - an elevated city park and walkway for the masses. I'm a massive pussycat, so when I heard him say 'I saw people holding hands - New Yorkers NEVER hold hands' it sold me. I love to see a bit of local pride making the places we live better and greener. I've gotta get back there.
